Imphal, January 12 2014 :
The prospect of fielding common candidates in the coming Lok Sabha Election by non-Congress parties based in the State has been shattered after some major constituent parties namely Communist Party of India (CPI), Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Manipur Pradesh Trinamool Congress and Janta Dal (United) decided to set up their own candidates.
President of JD (U), Manipur State Unit M Tombi has worked earnestly to bring out common candidates of non-Congress parties in both Parliamentary Constituencies of the State to take on the Congress in the upcoming Lok Sabha election.
He is the convenor of the Non-Congress Parties which have come together to challenge the Congress Party.
However, the recent decision of the JD (U) to field its own candidates has left no prospect for fielding common candidates of the non-Congress parties in the coming Lok Sabha Election.
According to a reliable source, three aspiring candidates to contest for the seat of Inner Manipur Parliamentary Constituency and one aspirant for the seat of Outer Manipur Parliamentary Constituency have submitted their applications for candidature to the President of JD (U), Manipur State Unit.
However, the names of the aspirants could not be ascertained so far.
The applications of the aspiring candidates have already been forwarded to the national leaders of JD (U).
Some five/six political parties have already agreed to support the candidates set up by JD (U), the source added.
It may be mentioned that there are altogether 13 political parties in the Non-Congress alliance, namely BJP, MPP, MSCP, TC, JD (S), JD (U), Shiv Sena, BSP, CPI, CPI (M), All India Forward Bloc, NPP and NCP.
Among them Communist Party of India (CPI), Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Manipur Pradesh Trinamool Congress have already announced their decision of fielding own candidates in the upcoming Lok Sabha election, which is expected to be held sometime in April.
Meanwhile, President of BJP State Unit Th Chaoba has conveyed that the list of aspiring candidates, who have applied for party tickets to contest in the Lok Sabha election has been forwarded to the National leaders of the party along with observation of the State unit party.
The candidates would be finalised during National Executive Council of the party scheduled to be held at New Delhi on January 17 and followed up open discussion session on January 18 and 19, Chaoba disclosed, adding that he would be leaving Imphal on January 16 to attend these meeting and open discussion sessions.
