Imphal, November 03 2016: All Manipur Government Aided College Teachers' Association (AMGACTA) has today stated that it launch agitation in case the State Government fails to fulfil their pending demands at the earliest and added that the association will neither take part in graduate semester examinations which will commence on November 23 nor in election duty.

Briefing mediapersons at Manipur Press Club today, AMGACTA general secretary M Suren stated that teachers of 6 Government aided colleges namely Biramangol College, Liberal College, Thambalmarik College, Kakching Khunou College, Mayailambi College and Standard College have been going through untold suffering for more than 35 years.

"The colleges were established more than 35 years ago in order to provide educational facilities particularly to the backward students.

The Government of Manipur had upgraded these colleges to aided level in 1987 with a sanctioned post of only one lecturer each in some departments along with 11-12 non-teaching posts," M Suren said.

Though the State Government extended the UGC scale to Government approved teachers, salaries of the approved staff teachers were evenly distributed between the Government approved and unapproved staff teachers in to ensure smooth functioning of the academic and administrative affairs of the colleges.

Numerous agreements and MoUs were signed between the representatives of the Government of Manipur and executive committee of AMGACTA on May 25, 1993 to make these aided colleges as full-fledged Government colleges.

M Suren further said that till date, no advancement scheme and extension of 6th Pay Commission under UGC have been implemented in these colleges.

Though all the aided colleges across the country follow UGC norms and guidelines, the Government of Manipur makes no clear cut policy for faculty support, improvement of college infrastructure, he said.

It is strongly condemned that the State Government has regularised 418 part-time lecturers of 28 Government Colleges and created another 933 contractual lecturers by the State Government in 2014 without due consideration for the development of the teachers of 6 Government aided colleges.

Teachers of these 6 Government aided colleges will launch an intense form of agitation starting November 5 and the State Government should be held for any untoward incident thereafter, M Suren said.

It may be mentioned that Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh has announced on November 31 to upgrade Jiribam College to full-fledged Government college.
