State artiste troupe to perform in north India

A group of seven 'pung sankritan (cholom)' artistes led by Guru S Yaima has left the State today to perform in various educational institutes located in north India under the 'Pung Troupe of SPIC MACAY Series' .
The troupe was today flagged off from Kwakeithel Thingom Leikai by the members of SPIC MACAY Imphal Chapter.
Sponsored by the Society for the Promotion of Indian Classical Music and Culture Amongst Youth (SPIC MACAY) the artistes will showcase the rich cultural and artistic values of Manipur to children of Kota, Jodhpur, Chandigarh, Haryana, Dehradun, Punjab and Meerut from October 5 till October 22, stated president of SPIC MACAY Imphal Chapter Dr W Ibomcha during a brief interaction with media persons.
He further said that the troupe will interact with students after every performance.
SPIC MACAY Chapter of other States have been inviting artistes of State to perform in various educational institutes.
Another artiste troupe of SPIC MACAY Imphal Chapter has performed in Tamil Nadu recently, Ibomcha said.
SPIC MACAY is a voluntary youth movement which promotes various aspects of Indian cultural heritage by promoting Indian classical music, classical dance, folk music, yoga, meditation, crafts and other aspects of Indian culture.
In order to achieve its goals, SPIC MACAY organizes concerts, lectures, demonstrations, workshops, informal discussions, and talks.
