International Day of Older Persons observed all over

Senior Citizens' Forum, Imphal East observed the International Day of Older Persons at the multipurpose community hall of Wangkhei Keithel Ashangbi today.
National awardee Hanjabam Nandakishore Sharma and retired IAS officer Chungkham Birendra graced the function as the chief guest and president respectively.
Former HOD Clinical Psychology (RIMS) Dr M Akshaykumar spoke at the function on the topic, 'Psychological problems of old aged persons in the context of Manipur' .
He said that persons whose age is above 60 are known as elderly or older persons.
Dr Akshaykumar said that most of the elderly persons have visual and hearing problems, he said and added that diabetes is the major disorder which shortens the life of older persons.
He said that they also usually have depression and anxiety related ailments that lead to sleep disorders and palpitation.
Dr Akshaykumar further said that if any elderly person has Alzheimer's disease, family members need to take extra care of him/her.
Nobody must argue him/her and force to do anything he/she does not want, he said.
Regular exercise can keep elderly persons physically fit while Yoga can check stress, Dr Akhshaykumar said.
Saying that traffic congestion is increasing day by and day, Akshaykumar said that there is need for introduction of a separate footpath for elderly persons.
Manipur State Legal Services Authority also observed the International Day of Older Persons at All Manipur Women Association Complex, Purana Rajbari, Nongmeibung.
The function was attended by A Noutuneshwari Devi, Chief Judicial Magistrate Imphal East cum Secretary District Legal Services Authority, Imphal East, Advocate Chakpram Bimolchandra, Advocate Salam Devananda and Advocate Thiyam Rajkeshor as the chief guest, president and guests of honour.
