Ukhrul, October 25 2010:
The villagers of Veikhang area in Ukhrul district gathered here today for a brain storming session to press the authority concerned for early completion of Inter Village Road (IVR) .
The villagers alleged that they have been irked by the long pending construction of 13-Km-long Choithar via Khangkhui road in Veikhang area.
Addressing a press conference held here today, the Chairman of Veikhang Area Development Association (VADA) Qr Rinsem, who is also the headman of Khangkhui Khullen said the road is very vital for development of the area since it is the lone road that passes through the villages of this area.
VADA is composed of five villagesChoithar, Khankhui Khullen, Khangkhui Khunou, Nungshong khunou and Nungshong khullen.
If the construction work is completed the distance between Kamjong and Ukhrul will be shortened by about 30 kms.
Sources said the alignment for the road was taken by experts from Manipur State Rural Road Development Agency (MSRDA) while villages of the area was first connected by construction of IVR under Basic Minimum Service (BMS) way back in the 1980s.Appealing the authority concerned for early completion of the road construction, the villagers urged all concerned not to interfere in their strife towards completing the construction work at the earliest.
VA threatens stir: Taking serious note over the failure of constructing the bridge over Barak river which is to connect Tamenglong district headquarters with Tousem sub-division headquarters, Namtiram Village Authority has warned of taking recourse to various intense agitations if the Govt fails to take up necessary action against the contractor concerned.
In a statement, chairman of Namtiram Village Authority ND Kadenbou pointed out that the construction of the bridge was entrusted to one special contractor identified as JC Kamei in 2007.But the construction of the bridge is yet to be completed and the construction materials are laying rusted in the water.
If the Govt does not take up necessary action against the contractor to ensure completion of the bridge by November, then the leaders of the area in association with other social organisations would be launching various intense agitation, the chairman warned.
The Govt should also be held responsible any eventuality in this regard, the chairman added.
