Mass Japanese Encephalitis Vaccination Programme for children between the age group of one to 15 years has begun today simultaneously in five districts of the state, which are prone to the dreaded disease.
The programme which kicked off today in five districts of Imphal East, Imphal West, Bishnupur, Thoubal and Chandel is being targeted at covering 5,92,196 children within the age group of one to 15 years by opening 2053 vaccination booths, officials of the state Family Welfare Department said.
A total of 217 medical officers, 678 ANM, 3646 Anganwadi workers, 2713 ASHA, 1815 teachers, 93 supervisors and 344 staff nurses are utilizing in the programme which would continue for eight days, they added.
A total of 2053 booths including 1815 booths in schools were opened and will conduct the programme everyday starting from 9 am to 5 pm and each booth will be manned by two ANM and one each of ASHA, Anganwadi worker and teacher.
For every five booths, one supervisor will be deputed, the official said.
The five districts of Manipur were included among 109 districts listed out in the country for conducting the mass vaccination programme, a Central sponsored programme taken up in the state by the state family welfare department in collaboration with National Rural Health Mission.
The vaccine to be vaccinated is SA14-14-2 .
Life of as many as 34 persons was reportedly claimed in the state due to similar syndrome of Japanese Encephalitis in July of this year.
But eight of them, were confirmed to have been killed by the Japanese Encephalitis.
