Visiting the temporary camps at Laphupat Tera and Arong Nongmaikhong today where fleeing villagers were camped due to the ongoing Operation Summer Storm at Loktak pat, the Indian Red Cross Society, Manipur State Branch has distributed relief materials to the dislocated villagers.
Relief materials like mosquito nets, blankets, candles, match boxes, tooth pastes, toot brushes, soaps, mosquito repellent coils, sweets, medicines, etc worth Rs 75, 000 were distributed by the IRCS, a press release issued by the society's Hony Secretary Dr M Lala stated.
Humanitarian issues like fear psychosis amongst the civilian population resulting in the fleeing of homes, inability to perform daily survival activities, preventing students from going to school, and posing hazard to Sangais are of great concern to the Red Cross, the statement noted.
Meanwhile, the Coalition Against Drug and Alcohol (CADA) has distributed relief materials to villagers camping at various relief camps in Loktak area yesterday.
A statement of CADA signed by its information and publicity secretary, Farooq Khullakpam said that five bags of rice, one bag of common salt, a bag of potatoes, mosquito repellent coils, candles, bleaching powder, sugar, and other edible items were doled out at Arong Khunjao relief camp.
Eight bags of rice, a bag each of potatoes and common salt, mosquito coils, two bags of bleaching powder and other items were given to campers at Tera Khunou Mandop relief camp, the statement said.
It further said that two bags each of rice and bleaching powder, a bag of common salt, mosquito repellant coils, candles and other items at Ithai Khunou Bazar community hall.
The CADA said that the relief items were contributed by concerned individuals of Wabagai bazaar, Tentha, Tekcham, Khongjom, Bishnupur Bazaar, and Ningthoukhong Bazaar.
