Imphal, April 19 2009:
Sitting Rajya Sabha MP, veteran Congress leader, Rishang Keishing Sunday asked CPI to quit the government if they are to continue criticizing Congress during its election campaigns even as the two party are the partners of the ruling Secular Progressive Front (SPF) .
Mention may be made that CPI has been the coalition partners of the Congress since the installation of the SPF government in Manipur seven year back in 2004 even though CPI at the Centre delinked with the Congress led UPF government last year.
In the current Parliamentary elections, both the parties are fielding their nominees in the Inner Manipur Parliamentary constituency which would go on poll on April 22 .
CPI is fielding Dr.M Nara Singh to contest with the sitting MP, Dr.T Meinya.
CPI has been blaming the Congress for failing to work in coordination citing that Congress leaders have been turning down to every proposal like holding of Steering Committee meeting and to find strategies to deal effectively with the "worsen" law and order situation of the state.
In the election rallies of the CPI, its leaders are also taking credit of lifting of the Armed Forces (Special) Power Act, 1958 from the Imphal Municipality area covering seven Assembly segments in 2005 stating that it was lifted after the CPI threatened to withdraw support to then SPF government which could not attend majority in the state Assembly.
With the closer to the polling day to the Inner Manipur Parliamentary constituency, Congress is holding its election rallies in different parts of Imphal east and west and also some part of the Thoubal district included in the inner constituency.
In most of the rallies Congress leader, Chief Minister, O Ibobi Singh, sitting MP of Rajya Sabha from Manipur, Rishang Keishing who is also former chief minister of the state and MPCC president, Gaikhangam, ministers and MLAs of the party.
Speaking in one of the campaign meeting at Moirang Leirak in Imphal west district, Rishang observed that even though CPI is a partner to the Congress in the SFP government, always blaming Congress for failure to deal effectively with the law and order situation and failure in taking up development activities only is not true.
CPI is spreading wrong propaganda only to woo the voters in a manner not to be done as a partner in the state.
They should not do like this if they wanted a friendly fight with
its partners.
He also said that criticizing the congress at the time of election terming it as a dying party is a laughable one.
Congress party which ruled the country for the longest period of time will never die.
Only those parties formed by people after disassociated from another party will not last long, Rishang added attacking to other political parties sending out candidates in the election.
Work minister, K Ranjit also putting up the same demand of ouster of the CPI from the SPF government said instead of attacking to the Congress openly, the party should quit from the partnership and fight freely with congress.
Chief Minister, O Ibobi Singh said, SPF government is equally view all the political parties irrespective of who is opposition or ruling.
But attacking Congress repeated by them is like tiger who do not know his owner.
"Now time has come to teach lesson them," he said as they do not count the effort of the Congress.
It also amount to hurt in party organization of the Congress.
