Imphal, October 15 2012:
A 20-feet long RCC bridge constructed over Thangsarok stream in Longna Koireng village under Senapati district has shown signs of cracking and started collapsing even before inauguration.
A team of mediapersons who went to inspect the bridge today after being informed by the villagers came across that the side flanks of the newly constructed bridge have already crumbled while cracks have started showing on the main bridge.
Interestingly, on reaching the spot, it was learnt that the contractor identified as Karam Sunil conveyed to the Village Secretary that since the media persons have been informed about the situation 'let them (mediapersons) carry out the re-construction process.' The Village Secretary in turned threatened the visiting media persons that if the contractor goes missing, they (media persons) should take the responsibility of bringing the contractor back.

Informing about the crumbling RCC Bridge, R Ngirsokam Koireng, Secretary of Longa Koireng Youth Club recalled that the construction of the Bridge was started in 2006 and was left abandoned for quite a long time.
On November 19, 2011, the then Works Minister K Ranjit, when he came to inaugurate another bridge in the village, assured that the construction work on the RCC bridge would be completed soon.
Under the instruction of the then Works Minister, the construction on the side wing of the bridge was completed.
However, since the construction work had not been carried out properly, the side wing collapsed and fell into the stream on October 13 last.
Ngirsokam further informed that the bridge is the most important route connecting the villagers of Khoju, Thangjing Chiru, Khonglon Part I, Part II and New Keithelmanbi with NH 37 and appealed to the concerned authority for re-construction of the bridge.
