Bangladeshi NGO in state on exposure visit

A six-member delegation of Friends in Village Development Bangladesh (FIVDB), a Bangladesh based NGO today made an 'Exposure Visit' under the programme of 'Ethnic Manipuri Textile Project' to Manipur to explore possibility of export of the state's textile products.
The 'Exposure Visit' was organised under the initiatives of Sahitya Thoupang Lup, Imphal in collaboration with Manipur Apex Handloom Weavers and Handicrafts Artisans' Co-operative Society Limited, Imphal.
The visiting team also included two Manipuris, a consultant and beneficiary of the NGO.
Addressing media persons at Bheigo Hotel here today, members of the team said the ethnic Manipuri textile products has got huge demands in the Bangladeshi markets informing that they have already tied up with the Manipuris living in Bangladesh which have trading link regarding the state's textile products from many years and added that the team's objectives in visiting the state is to get knowledges and aware of the technologies used by the state's weavers in making the textile products and to identify the differences between the products found in the state and those found in their country.

Satisfied with the visit, the team expressed that the raw materials, quality and finishing touch found in the state's textile products are more than those found in their country while adding that the state's textile products are more diversified in nature.
Expressing liable points from trade perspective, the team said raw materials is one of the major problem in building the trade business as they can only purchase it from the city, Dhaka, the capital of their country.
In order to establish good business between the countries, the visiting team said proper transportation and communication linkage will be needed and expressed concerned that many Myanmarese textile products are sold in Bangladesh by depicting it as Manipur's products.
The team which had arrived here on October 13 will leave Manipur on October 17 after visiting certain handloom clusters and tourist spot like Loktak.
