Senapati, March 27 2019:
The All Naga Students' Association Manipur (ANSAM) has alleged that the Assam Rifles raided the room of "NPF Support Team" in Tamenglong town on the night of March 23 and strongly condemned the unwarranted raid on the 'NPF Support Team' by the Assam Rifles (AR) under the command of a Major on March 23 night in Tamenglong town.
According to ANSAM, it has taken due note of the fact that the raid was carried out without any search warrant, "and when questioned the AR could not give any valid reason for carrying out the illegal act" .
The Naga student body also said that the harassment and torture and the nature of the raid clearly suggested that it was carried out with malicious intent and only to further the Assam Rifles' objective of creating fear psychosis in the minds of the public.
"It leaves no doubt in the mind of ANSAM that the raid was carried out in connivance with certain political parties and other rogue elements to derail and prevent the group to interact and reach out to the people.
Such act is against the law of the land and a cross violation of universal human rights," the ANSAM added.
According to the ANSAM, this was not an isolated case of the Assam Rifles in the guise of 'Friends of the hill people'.
The ANSAM cautioned the AR against "attempting to disturb public peace and harmony that such actions will be not tolerated and will be counter-productive" .
Further ANSAM further cautioned the AR not to take the laws into its own hand.
The ANSAM applauded the peaceful manner in which the NPF support group responded.
Further, the ANSAM demanded a public apology from the AR failing which, the ANSAM said it will not be held responsible for any sort of public unrest or protest as a consequence.
