Shyam bats for agricultural land

Imphal, February 27 2018:
Observing that continuous exploitation of agricultural land in the State will soon lead to a condition in which people canno longer buy rice even when they have ample money, Revenue Minister Karam Shyam conveyed that he will continue to take up appropriate actions against those who exploit agricultural land at various parts of the State, including his Assembly Constituency.
He was speaking as the chief guest at the one day awareness programme organized by The Palni Tree Handloom & Handicraft Cooperative Society Limited, Singjamei Waikhom Leikai, under the theme "The Role of Cooperative Societies in the Socio-Economic Upliftment of Rural People", at WAC community hall, Singjamei Waikhom Leikai, today.
The Revenue Minister, who is also the MLA of Langthabal A/C, further said that he will continue to undertake every possible steps/initiatives to prevent exploitation of agricultural lands in the interest of the people although the steps that will be taken up may harm the interests of some people/individuals.
Informing that he had completed designing/working out most of the plans needed to be presented to the Government for execution as a part of his duty as a Revenue Minister, Shyam went on to say that he will keep a strong vigil over the matter of taking up action against agricultural land exploitation in his constituency this time.
He claimed that the Government is consistently taking up many welfare policies and programmes for the women of the State with the objective of improving their economy.
The fate of the younger generations lies on the economy of their mothers and sisters, as they play a huge role in the upbringing of their children and sending them to schools.
As such the State will be considered developed only when the economy of its women has improved and when there is inclusive development in the State, he added.
Maintaining that generating awareness on the programmes, schemes and projects taken up by the Government is a must, the Minister pointed out that such initiatives are still lacking.
He observed that politicians, educated people, Government employees and all those who are on a higher position, must create awareness about the Government welfare schemes and programmes to the common people, apart from extending mutual cooperation among themselves.
The Minister added that there will be transparency, sincerity and development in the programmes/schemes/projects being implemented only when the people become aware of the initiatives.
Jeena Potsangbam, Chairperson, Project Coordination Committee, NCUI, New Delhi, pointed out that one should consider circulating/containing the economy of the State within the State and stressed on the need of developing the habit of buying local made products as well as ensuring proper production of the said local products.
Saying that there is a wrong notion/perception among the public that things imported from outside the State are better than the local made products, she urged all to let go of such mindset and encouraged them to use the local made products as much as possible.
The programme was also attended by L Roshan Singh, Zilla Parishad 13-Langthabal ZP, Imphal West, S Bhubol, Board Director, Manipur Apex Handloom Weavers & Handicraft Artisans' Cooperative Society Limited, Imphal, Th Guneshor Singh, Pradhan, Oinam Thingel GP, Imphal West, M Sanjeevkumar Singh, Assistant Director (Handicraft), M & SEC, Babupara, Imphal as the president and guests of honour respectively.
Pehchaan Cards were also distributed to the deserving beneficiaries of the localities during the programme.
