PM may inaugurate ICP in March: M Luikham

Prime Minister Narendra Modi may inaugurate the Integrated Check Post (ICP) which is being constructed at Moreh when he visits the State in March, said Trade, Commerce and Industries Director M Luikham.
Addressing a press conference organised by DIPR at its Moirangkhom complex today, Luikham said that transport bottlenecks along Imphal-Jiribam highway hamper transportation of machines and equipment necessary for oil exploration in the State.
Trade, Commerce and Industries Additional Director S Ibotombi who is also in charge of geology and mining said that the Netherlands-based Jubilant Energy had written to the Government of India informing that they are withdrawing from oil exploration in Manipur.
Notably, the company started oil exploration in the State since 2013 .

While informing that Prime Minister Narendra Modi may inaugurate the Moreh Integrated Check Post when he comes to the State next month, Luikham said that there are certain obstacles to the border haats which would be opened along Manipur-Myanmar border.
An Integrated Check Post is being constructed at Moreh under the aegis of the Land Ports Authority of India.
Through the border haats which would be opened at New Somtal, Chandel and Behiang, Churachandpur, the Centre wants to check drug trafficking as well smuggling of drugs and arms and ammunition.
The Centre has also agreed in principle to open another border haat at New Tusom, Luikham said.
He informed that food park would be developed in Imphal East and its site has been already identified.
While industrial estates are being constructed in Ukhrul, Churachandpur and Chandel, DPRs for construction of industrial estates in Imphal East and Senapati districts have been sent to the Centre, Luikham said.
S Ibotombi said that a draft guideline issued by the Government regarding quarrying of sand has been circulated to different departments.
A report based on feedbacks given by different departments would be sent to the Centre, Ibotombi said.
He further informed that necessary action would be initiated as per the guideline issued by the Centre.
Trade, Commerce and Industries Joint Director Kh Santakumar who is also in charge of the department's export-import section said that border trade between India and Myanmar is restricted to 62 items.
