Imphal, July 20 2013 :
Urging the concerned authority to raise the upper age limit for the upcoming Manipur Civil Services Combined Competitive Exam 2013 from the proposed 30 to 38 years, the All Tribal Students' Union Manipur (ATSUM) has warned of launching agitation in collaboration with like-minded students' organisations if the demand is not fulfilled.
A statement issued by ATSUM today pointed out that fixing the upper age limit for State services cannot be made in line with that of the UPSC as the UPSC is conducting civil services exams every year on regular basis while the States Public Service Commissions, including Manipur, are not conducting the exams on regular basis due to many factors.
Pointing out a peculiar situation as confronted in the State, ATSUM statement said even if such exams are conducted by the MPSC, many legal impediments and man-made factors come into play thereby resulting in the total cancellation of exams as happened in 1994 and 2008 .
Saying that only two exams have been successfully conducted by the MPSC during the period 2000-2013, the statement said most of the candidates are getting only two chances while the examination rule provides for four attempts for General and 7 for OBC candidates.
These two attempts were made possible by virtue of one-time age-relaxation of five years that was given for all the categories.
