Imphal, December 18 2011:
Reacting sharply against the killing of Soram Ibomcha, Chowkidar of Irilbung Water Supply Scheme and his son Yaiphu alias Geetchandra by armed cadres of KCP (MTF) in connection with a monitory demand of Rs 20 lakhs from the PHE Department, the JAC formed against the killing, has called for a state-wide 24-hour general strike starting from midnight of December 19 .
The JAC has staged a sit-in-protest against the brutal killing and burnt the effigies of KCP(MTF) chief Nando and Chief Engineer of PHED, H Imocha.
Speaking to reporters, Manihar Luwang, Convenor of the JAC said that the act of killing the father-son duo by KCP(MTF) was unfortunate and this implies that the UG group has sprang up only to earn easy money in the name of fighting for freedom.
He further said that the abduction of the father and the son were informed to the PHED in time.
But the department did not take up any steps to rescue them.
The Chief Engineer, H Imocha, even refused to listen to the family members, telling that he (Imocha) did not know them.
It was because of all these negligence on the part of the CE and the state government that the father and the son lost their lives.
The Chief Engineer should be relieved from his job at the earliest, he demanded.
He also demanded that Kesho of KCP (MTF) should be captured and punished by the government in accordance to the laws of the land.
The JAC will not take back the bodies of the father and the son until and unless justice is delivered.
The government should also take up actions against the personnel of Home Department who fail to save the father and son from the hands of KCP(MTF), even though incident of abduction was known much earlier.
The Convenor also demanded KCP (MTF) to come out with a public clarification on the killing of the poor father and his son.
He further appealed to the general public to co-operate during the general strike.
All medical, electricity, media and others related with social and religious events would be exempted from the purview of the strike, he added.
Meanwhile, the people of greater Imphal area have started facing acute shortage of water as the PHED Workers and Employees Organisation has stopped supplying water in protest against the killing of Ibomcha and Yaiphu.
