Imphal, October 13 2014:
Going on the offensive against the Congress, president of the Manipur People's Party, N Sovakiran today said that the time has come to throw out the party.
Addressing a meeting for the by election to the Hiyanglam by election at Thongjam Leirak today, the MPP president said that corruption has reached its zenith during the last 13 years of Congress rule in the State.
The time has come to send the Congress packing, he proclaimed.
Given the deep rooted culture of corruption, which has come to define the Congress, it is only right that the people raise the question of where the money allotted under the Local Area Development Fund has disappeared to, when the Congress and its candidate come to seek the people's vote, said Sovakiran.
Going on the offensive against the Congress for encouraging dynastic culture, Sovakiran questioned why the party has to be always under someone with a Gandhi surname.
Is there no one without a Gandhi surname who can lead the party, continued Sovakiran.
It is the time the voters start asking themselves whether casting their vote for such a party is healthy for democracy or not, said the MPP president.
Sovakiran also asked film artistes not to paint themselves as sympathisers of any political party at this moment.
The by election is the opportune moment for the people of Hiyanglam to show that they can take the lead in showing the rest that a change is imminent.
Electing the MPP candidate in the by election is the way to start this, he added.
Central committee member of the MPP, S Binod said that the Congress party has started using money power to woo the voters.
