Ukhrul, December 06 2019:
Tangkhul Shanao Long (TSL) has condemned the recent FIR filed by the 27 Assam Rifles against four Tangkhul Civil Society Organisations including the apex Tangkhul Naga Long (TNL), Tangkhul Naga Wungnao Long (TNWL), TangkhulShanao Long (TSL) and Tangkhul Katamnao Long (TKS) .
A press release from TSL said that the 27 Assam Rifles, on November 17 last, under Sh Nanda Dulal Pal, NB/SUB, lodged the said FIR to the Ukhrul Police Station in relation to the fateful incident that took place at Halang on November, 14, 2019 .
Saying that TSL is deeply disturbed by such selective targeting of particular community leaders, civil activists and human right defenders, it added that intention of the 27 Assam Rifles is to create an atmosphere of fear to control the whole populace.
Asserting that the whole charge in the said FIR is absolutely false and baseless, TSL clarified that it neither has any control, nor does it have any connection whatsoever with the alleged women protesters.
Even as per the averments in the said FIR, the alleged incident took place at Halang Village and not within Ukhrul Town and thus the question of their presence and involvement in the alleged incident do not even arise, it added.
It further clarified that none of the concerned organisations had anything to do with the alleged incident as the organisers of the alleged incident were not even known to them.
It also said that the purported statements reported on November 15, 2019 in the national medias regarding the issue were fabricated.
Maintaining that the protest organised by some unknown women folks remained peaceful all throughout as contrary to the version of the 27 Assam Rifles, it alleged that usage of violence or force whatsoever have not been reported from the site.
TSL also said that the number of women folks gathered at the site took the convoy by surprise and the personnel voluntarily release the persons in their custody without any confrontation.
Reminding that the right to peaceful protest is a basic feature of the fundamental rights, it urged the 27 Assam Rifles to respect the established law of the land and demands immediate withdrawal of all charges to restore the faith of the common people in the rule of law.
