Imphal, December 06 2019:
Strongly condemning abrupt termination of their engagement, labourers at the Food Corporation of India, Sangaiprou staged protest in front of the godown gate today.
About 81 labourers of the CAF&PD Labour Welfare Association raised slogans condemning termination of their engagement without prior notice or information.
Some of the labourers wore locked metals as garland around their necks to condemn the termination.
Speaking to media persons, the association's publicity secretary Sunil Laishram said that CAF&PD Labour Welfare Association under BK Enterprises had been working at the godown since the last nine months.
But after removal of the BK Enterprises as the contractor on December 3 without any prior notice, NR Mathai Enterprises took over the next day and rendered the labourers unemployed.
The abrupt termination of engagement has left the 81 labourers with no means to earn a livelihood, he said.
About 80 labourers under NR Mathai Enterprises are currently engaged at the FCI godown.
The CAF&PD Labour Welfare Association will continue the strike until they are re-engaged, he added.
