Terming the killing of an informer Sathsliu Gangmei recently as very unfortunate, the Zeliangrong Union (AMN) has urged all Zeliangrong National workers, civil societies and individuals to restrain from any violent killing in Zeliangrong inhabited areas of Assam, Nagaland and Manipur.
"Sathsliu Gangmei had confessed to the crime she committed against the organisation concerned.
If she was given another chance to rectify herself and entrusted to the village authority or area authority instead of killing her, the matter would have been much better in the eyes of the public," a ZU (AMN) statement said.
It conveyed its belief that any individual committing crime against any individual, family, village, organisation or tribe must be punished but not killed, as per the law of the land.
The Zeliangrong people have inherited an aesthetic traditional/customary laws to deal with any case or dispute.
Such dispute or case could be tried from the village level till the apex Thoubei Court, it said, adding that the forefathers were totally against any kind of killings.
In case of intentional or accidental killings the cases were settled in the customary law Court.
It also mentioned that 98 countries have abolished the dead penalty.
