Imphal, October 04 2021:
A poster campaign was conducted by People for Animals to mark its 10th foundation day as well as to observe World Animal Day, which is a social movement celebrated across the world on October 4 every year.
A press release issued by People for Animals stated that the poster campaign centered around the prohibition of sale and consumption of dog meat and to foster patronage of the Manipur pony.
The posters were widely scattered in hotels and busy places across Thoubal, Kakching, Imphal West and Imphal East.
The campaign was organised in order to benefit man's best friend and the Manipur pony, the condition of which is rapidly on the decline.
The press release further said that the Cruelty to Animals Act does not contain any clause about cruelty towards dogs and birds.
Neither are there any laws in Manipur against the sale and consumption of dog meat.
The result of which is the continued and unchecked mistreatment of dogs, it added.
The Manipur Pony is not faring any better.
Due to lack of grazing grounds and poor financial condition of the pony owners, the poor ponies are left to fend for themselves on roadsides and are visible for all to witness.
Thus, People for Animals have urged meat shop owners to stop selling dog meat and exhorted the people of Manipur to work together to improve the condition of animals.
