Kakching, October 04 2021:
Kakching Municipal Council organised Information, Education and Communication (IEC) programme on Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojna (Urban) - Housing for all 2020 at the Council's conference hall on Monday.
The programme was attended by Kakching MLA Mayanglambam Rameshwar, Kakching Municipal Council executive engineer Naorem Ramachandra, assistant engineer Salam Jugeshwor, staffers of the Council and PMAY (U) beneficiaries among others.
Speaking on the occasion, Salam Jugeshwor informed that PMAY has been launched to construct houses for those who do not have proper houses.
In municipal council areas, financial assistance is being extended to people for construction of their houses under the PMAY-U scheme of the ministry of housing and urban affairs.
Under the scheme, Kakching, Sugnu, Jiribam and Lamsang municipal councils have been selected for the first phase in Manipur in 2016.In all, 1519 beneficiaries under Kakching Municipal Council were selected when PMAY (U) - Housing for all scheme was first launched.
Unfortunately, out of the 1519 beneficiaries many of them are yet to start construction of their houses, thereby impeding official process for receiving fund for those who have completed constructing their houses, Jugeshwor said.
Moreover, pending completion of house construction for the first phase is creating issues in sending documents for the second phase, he pointed out, while adding that such delay is diminishing the opportunity of people who can become beneficiaries.
He further urged all those beneficiaries who have not completed construction of their houses to report to Kakching Municipal Council.
With reference to the views expressed by Jugeshwor on non-completion of constructing houses by beneficiaries, Kakching MLA Rameshwar opined that the amount (Rs 1.50 lakh) provided as per guidelines of the scheme is not enough.
As such, beneficiaries could not complete construction of their houses as they do not have additional money at their disposal.
He assured of exerting pressure on the chief minister for providing additional money to the beneficiaries as done in other states if he is re-elected as representative of Kakching AC.
Claiming that he has taken up several developmental works including construction of roads, improving health services, water supply and many more since he became the MLA, Rameshwar said that funds have also been sanctioned for developing district library, district science centre and district court complex.
During the programme, MLA Rameshwar handed over the account statement of providing 2nd and 3rd instalment to 100 beneficiaries of PMAY (U) and LED bulbs.
