Awareness programme on disaster management held

A one-day awareness programme on disaster management training was held today at Community Hall, Longmai-3, regarding comprehensive landslide, effects of deforestation which was attended by village chief, headman, community leaders, educated youth of Longmai (Noney) District.
The programme was sponsored by Dept of Relief & Disaster Management, Govt of Manipur and conducted by Department of Forest, Civil Defence, Manipur.
Mohd Ayub Khan, Dy Controller, Relief & Disaster Management, Govt of Manipur; Pouhiam Kamei, social worker; and D Pouhoilung, social worker graced the function as chief guest, functional president and guest of honour respectively.
Speaking at the occasion, the chief guest spoke about regular occurrence of natural and men-made disasters due to continuous destruction of natural forests resources for many different purposes for various development projects.
He further said that people died due to contaminated food by pesticides, insecticides and chemical fertilizers.
As such, we need to spread awareness about the dangerous effects of consuming such foods.
Village leaders, women, youths and students also attended the programme.
