Some non tribals are encroaching the land at Lilong Chaobok Kabui Khul, without the knowledge Of the land owner and are threatening them, alleged, Joykumar Wahengbam, human rights defender and urged the authorities concerned to look into the matter at the earliest.
Speaking to media persons today at Manipur Press Club, he said that some non tribals are encroaching the land of Kabuis residing in the valley of Manipur.
At Lilong Chaobok Kabui Khul the land of Luwangchao Kabui, patta no.219 was illegally transferred to three other persons in 2014 .
Regarding this the land owner does not have any information and he never sold this plot of land.
Stating that such incident is surprising and is of serious concern he said that RTI has been registered and the SDC and SDO of Lilong have been requested to rectify the illegal transfer but there is no update till now.
He further said that under the Scheduled Caste and the Scheduled Tribe (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, 1989, land encroachers should be punished but it is unfortunate that the officials concerned are ignoring the issue, When the land owner went to pay the tax, the SDO and SDC of Lilong objected and was permitted only when he accompanied the owner.
Luwangchao Kabui said that his land was transferred in the name of three non-tribals in 2014 without his knowledge.
He asked the authorities concerned to rectify the same but it has not been done.
He has been threatened and attacked with guns when he went for farming in his land, alleged Luwangchao.
A complaint was registered to the OC of Lilong Police Station but no action has been taken till date, he said and condemned the inaction.
He also met the DGP of Manipur Police on November 24 and complained to him as well.
Luwangchao appealed to the authorities and department concerned to look into the matter at the earliest and safeguard the rights of minorities.
