Imphal, December 30 2008:
THE SELF-STYLED commander of KCP (Mobile Task Force), Kokkai @ Samdo @ Akoijam Sambi was killed by a combined force of 39 Assam Rifles and Imphal East district police commandos this evening around 6.15 at the approach road between Koirengei and Mongjam, about 6 km north of Heingang police station in Imphal East district.

According to an official source, the incident took place around 6.15 pm.
Detailing further of the incident, the official source revealed that the combined force had been on alert for the past few days following a specific information that underground elements were to hold a meeting in the Koirengei area.
And this evening as the combined force were on duty as usual, some suspicious looking persons came on the road.
When they were challenged to stop and identify themselves, one of the suspected insurgents pulled out a gun and started shooting towards the police.
The police retaliated and a short encounter followed.
Later, when the combined force searched the area, they found a dead man.
The others had escaped under the cover of darkness.
A 9mm pistol along with four live ammunitions were recovered from the slain person, said the source and added the slain person is suspected to be one Shyanbi @ Kokkai (50) of Monsangei, Imphal West district.
