AICC condemns

The All India Christian Council condemns the recommendation put forth by the Indigenous People Forum to introduce the Manipur Freedom of Religion, the anti-conversion law while stating that anti-Conversion Bills are termed 'draconian' that violates the fundamental and constitutional rights of fellow citizens.
In a statement, regional secretary of AICC, NEI, Madhu Chandra said Manipur has suffered enough from draconian law for six decades and the state cannot afford at any cost to have another draconian law.
It affirmed that the AICC would oppose any forces attemptiong to turn Manipur into any other states where Hindutva forces operate while pointing out that anti-conversion laws in Orissa, Madhya Pradesh, and Chhattisgarh have been misused by Hindutva forces to harass minority.
The IPF had made recommendation to press for the passing of anti-conversion law during its one-day workshop on Lure and Proselytisation and Constitutional Interpretation of Freedom of Religion on June 24 .
The AICC statement asserted that freedom of religion is the fundamental and constitutional rights of every Indian citizen, which is also guaranteed by the Universal Declaration of UN fundamental rights.
