Imphal, June 28 2012:
Coming out strongly against the flip flop stand of the Medical Directorate over the merit list of the MBBS/BDS entrance examination, the Democratic Students' Association of Manipur has categorically demanded the resignation of Health Minister Phungzathang Tonsing, Health Commissioner Moses Chalai and Health Director Dr Sh Surchandra and added that until and unless the controversies are resolved, the counselling session scheduled to start from July 7 should not proceed.
Detailing a number of points, the student body in a statement issued to the press today said that after the pre-medical test was conducted on June 10, the result was announced on June 11 and it was clearly mentioned that though rechecking would be allowed, re-evaluation would not be allowed.
However in total violation of the rule framed, the merit list was drawn up afresh on 22 on the ground that there was an error in the answer key in the Physics paper (Question number 10, 20, 5 and 25 of series ABC and D) .

Another fresh list was issued again on June 23, said DESAM.
Even today there are allegations that there is an error in the answer key in Biology paper (question number 25, code series D).
Does this mean that a new list would be drawn up, it asked.
It is a matter of shame that students who appeared for the examination have to see their place in the merit list changed due to the incompetency, ineptness and ignorance of the subject experts, question setters and the Government, alleged DESAM.
Raising a number of question, the student body asked why the stated norm that re-evaluation would not be allowed was compromised so easily in the first place.
Why are fresh merit lists being issued after the declaration of the list on June 11 ? .
What would be the fate of the student, who first found his or her name in the merit list only to find out later that his or her name has been struck off from the merit list, asked DESAM.
What would happen to the self esteem of the student ? If anything ugly happens to the said students, would the Government bear the responsibility ? .
The student body further said that there must be some powerful influence at work to make the Government keep on changing the merit list.
Contending that this is not the first time that allegations have been raised against wrong questions and answer keys, DESAM asked how re-evaluation was allowed this time, when it was not allowed in the past.
The Health Minister, Health Commissioner and Health Director must take full responsibility for the fiasco that has been enacted, said the student body and demanded their resignation.
