Ukhrul revels in colourful Christmas celebration

Ukhrul town is illuminated with colourful lights and decorated with Christmas trees and stars for Christmas celebration.
The blessed birthday of Jesus Christ is celebrated throughout the world by exchanging gifts and greeting each other irrespective of their religion or denomination and also relished with the wonderful love of God.
Since the past few days, Ukhrul denizens made hectic preparations for the festival and the town was overcrowded giving tough time to traffic police.
They were assisted by the youth of the town in regulating traffic movements while the shopkeepers had a brisk sale of their items.
With a large crowd turning up every day to buy their favourite items, prices of these items saw a steep rise in the past few weeks in the town.
However, people did not hesitate in spending any amount during this festival season.
Houses have been renovated and illuminated with colourful lights and children have got new clothes from their parents for the celebration.
It may be mentioned that Tangkhuls usually organize family feasts during Christmas.
Gifts are also distributed to elderly persons and needy people to make the celebration more meaningful.
Christmas eve was celebrated in different Churches where the Pastors and Church leaders preached the gospels of Jesus Christ, and told the gathering why Jesus Christ was born.
People revelled with songs, Christmas carols, wishing Merry Christmas and distribution of jaggery etc in the midnight.
Christmas gift 'Shimlaksa' will be distributed on December 25 morning after cutting the Christmas cake.
In Ukhrul, Christmas is a weeklong celebration, in which varieties of games like football, relay race, tug of war, singing competition, fancy dress etc will be held.
In the evening, social gatherings will be held after prayer service till New Year's eve.
