Imphal, May 17 2012:
Following threats and extortion notice served by NSCN-IM to officials of SBI Ukhrul branch, the State Government has decided to entrust the responsibility of guarding the bank premises to the Assam Rifles.
A reliable source informed that NSCN-IM demanded 24 per cent from salaries of all the staff working in the bank.
Taking due note of this demand as well as the insecurity felt by the SBI staff working in Ukhrul branch, the Government decided to hand over the task of guarding the bank to Assam Rifles.
The Superintendent of Police, Ukhrul has already submitted a report to the Government about the rebel outfit's extortion notice and its psychological impact on the staff.
The SBI branch was opened there following repeated requests by Ukhrul denizens to former Union Home Secretary GK Pillai during a development seminar held at the district headquarters sometime back .
