A one-day 'Khurai Block Congress Workers' Conference' organised by Khurai Block Congress Committee was held at Eema Laikhurembi Mandap, Khurai Sajor Leikai today with MPCC president and Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam gracing the conference as the chief guest.
KBCC president K Sanajaoba Singh and Khurai AC MLA Dr Ng Bijoy also attended the event as the president and guest of honour respectively.
In his address to the gathering, Gaikhangam clarified that National Food Security Bill was placed before the Parliament with the objective to eliminate the problem of hunger in the country and has no connection with the electoral prospect of the Congress party.
initiative to get Parliamentary consent to the Bill showcased the UPA Government's commitment for the wel-being of the entire population as the Government is aware about lakhs of economically deprived citizens unable to afford two square meals a day, said the Deputy CM while conveying that recent passing of the Land Acquisition Act would be applicable only when there is consensus of 80 percent of the population whose land would be possessed by the Government for developmental activities, including road expansion projects.
Under the same Act approval of 70 percent of the population would be mandatory even if projects are to be implemented in Government lands, he clarified.
Speaking at the occasion, Dr Ng Bijoy said since coming to power in the Centre, the Congress-led UPA Government has launched and implemented a number of flagship programme aimed at betterment of every section of the society.
To enable the Congress party serve the people it needs the support of the masses, urged the MLA.
MPCC office bearers, party unit functionaries and many Congress supporters were also present at the conference.
