Imphal, October 08 2013 :
Denouncing the alleged negligence of the State Government towards their demands for immediate cancellation of Home Department's notifications pertaining to inclusion of villages under Saikul sub-division of Senapati under the police jurisdiction of Imphal East district, Kuki Inpi, Saikul Gamkai and Saikul Area Naga People's Organisation have decided to impose a 48-hour Senapati district bandh with effect from midnight of October 14 .
The decision was adopted during a joint meeting of Kuki Inpi Saikul Gamkai, Saikul Area Naga People's Organisation, Village Chiefs, Public leaders of Saikul sub-division Kuki Inpi here today.
Talking to media persons after the meeting, President of Kuki Inpi Saikul Gamkai Thangkam Lupheng and President of Saikul Area Naga People's Organisation Chance Raikhan pointed out that as per the Home department's notification dated 15th April, 2011 and 14th June, 2011, as many as 35 villages of Saikul sub-division have been included under Sagolmang Police Station, 20 villages under Andro Police Station, 34 villages of both both Saikul and Ukhrul under Yaingangpokpi police station of Imphal East district, another 10 villages under Nongpok Sekmai police station of Thoubal district while the Maphou Dam police station has been placed under the jurisdiction of Imphal East district police.
Questing whether the Government of Manipur exist exclusively for the security and welfare of the valley districts only, the two leaders observed that if the Government is really concerned about the security, law & order problem in the State, then parallel policies/programmes should be adopted for both the hill and the valley districts equally.
They contended that opening of police stations/outposts under Imphal East district police and Thoubal district police along the vicinity of Saikul sub-division and inclusion of villages of Saikul sub-division and some villages of Phungyar A/C, Ukhrul under the jurisdiction of the said police stations is nothing by an act of intrusion into the administrative jurisdiction of Senapati district police.
If police stations are required in the said area, then it should be created and kept under the jurisdiction of Senapati district police.
Inclusion of villages of Saikul sub-division under the jurisdiction of Imphal East district police and Thoubal district police is also a threat to the existence of Senapati police station and it would certainly create confusion, misunderstanding and the problem of overlapping between districts, they added.
They also warned of intensifying the stir if the Government remains silence over their demand even after imposition of the bandh.
