Imphal, October 30 2016:
DESAM has condemned the arrest of five of their members including the president and alleged assault by police following a violent confrontation among students at Manipur University yesterday.
A team of DESAM volunteers led by general secretary Edison Nameirakpam went to Raj Medicity today where five of their colleagues including Moirangthem Angamba were undergoing treatment.
Speaking to media persons after visiting their injured colleagues, Edison said that the violent confrontation which took place at MU campus was not between DESAM and MU students but it was instigated by some miscreants.
The arrest and assault on five DESAM volunteers by police was rather disheartening, Edison said.
He demanded that the Government take up befitting action against all the police personnel involved in assaulting the DESAM volunteers by November 4 .
He also conveyed solidarity to the police personnel who sustained serious injuries during yesterday's confrontation.
Out of the five DESAM volunteers assaulted, four have been discharged as their injuries were of minor nature but president Angamba is still undergoing treatment at Raj Medicity, he added.
