Imphal, October 30 2016:
The All Naga Students' Association, Manipur (ANSAM) has strongly condemned 'the random raiding and arrest of innocent civilians under fabricated charges and allegations by Manipur police commandos' .
ANSAM in a statement decried the 'acts of violence and blatant abuse of human rights' and strongly condemned the 'continued oppression of the indigenous people/tribals of Manipur' .
The statement referred to the arrests of Phaningkhui Kapai, of Peh (Paoyi) village, Ukhrul and four choir members from Somdal village who were "arrested without any reason" on Oct 26 and Oct 28, 'as another assault and attack on the Naga people' .
Kapai's arrest was made with no explanation nor was a case registered against him, while the four choir members had a case filed against them.
The statement decried that the charges are "highly uncalled for" .
ANSAM said these incidents are communal provocations carried out by the Govt and warned that this will only cause a divide among the valley and hill and demanded that an end be put to this, along with quick release of the arrested civilians.
