Imphal, October 30 2016:
The KSO general headquarters has strongly condemned the unwarranted crackdown on students at Manipur University gate yesterday which resulted in the arrest of 10 student leaders including the president of DESAM.
The KSO in a statement issued by its general secretary Seiboi Haokip, said the JAC for Admission in MU and student unions backing the JAC are solely responsible for the whole incident.
DESAM had planned to organise the reception programme inside the campus with due permission from the MU authority.
If the JAC had misgivings about the programme it should have made it known to DESAM prior to the day of the programme.
Instead, the JAC and MU authority decided to prevent the reception by locking the gates, he alleged.
The JAC had intended to create problems for DESAM, KSO said while clarifying that DESAM cannot be held responsible for the incident.
The police have acted irrationally towards DESAM leaders.
Instead of arresting DESAM leaders they should have arrested the JAC leaders who caused the problem.
KSO has further urged the police authority to release their arrested leaders immediately.
The police should arrest leaders of the JAC for admission in MU as it was the JAC that causes trouble in MU since its perception.
They are the one who perpetrated arson and mayhem in the university by defying UGC instructions and Court orders regarding 31 percent reservation for STs, KSO alleged.
The whole incident yesterday had nothing to do with the reservation impasse in MU.
DESAM's plan was only to hold a reception for the elected college union leaders.
The drama at MU gate yesterday was premeditated and was targeted to cause trouble for DESAM as the alliance had spoken out for the STs on the reservation issue, it added.
