Imphal, February 19 2015:
Fruit traders who had occupied a certain portion of Bhairodan Maxwell Hindi Primary School at Thangal Bazar were driven out by the Democratic Students' Alliance of Manipur (DESAM) today after the traders failed to move out despite repeated appeals.
Secretary general of DESAM, P Premananda said, "DESAM has been organising social activities in all the schools and other areas.
We then came across one Ashok Kumar Gupta (54) from Uttar Pradesh who had set up a fruit stall by occupying some portion of Bhairodan Maxwell Hindi Primary School gate.
Despite repeated appeals by the school authority, Ashok Kumar failed to shift his stall" .
Stating that Ashok Kumar Gupta has obtained a licence to exercise his fruit business from IMC, Premananda further said that while women street vendors are not allowed to sell their goods, fruit traders have been permitted by IMC to set up stores near the school.
DESAM said that the State Government should ensure that commercial stores are not allowed in surrounding areas of the school which cause disturbances to the students.
