Farm kits distributed

Orange saplings and farm kits were distributed to farmers of Tamenglong district at a simple programme held today at the official residence of Tamenglong AC MLA Janghemlung Panmei in Babupara.
The farm items were provided under a specific programme of the Central Government to enable Tamenglong district orange farmers sustain their traditional agricultural activities.
Speaking at the event organised by Department of Horticulture and Soil Conservation, MLA Janghemlung prevailed upon the farmers to adopt new and scientific method of orange cultivation for maximum yield from one of the most suitable orange plantation zones in the State.
Emphasising on the need to expand market for orange produced from Tamenglong district along with noting that there is high demand for orange produced from the district, the MLA reminded the beneficiary farmers that purposeful utilisation of the equipment provided today can generate healthy income.
According to Horticulture and Soil Conservation Deputy Director Hafizuddin Khan, who is also in-charge of Central-sponsored orange development programme in Tamenglong district, said the central project was started in the district last year.
Taking into account suitable soil and climatic conditions to grow orange in the district the Central Government too is committed to assisting the orange farmers in every possible manner, said the Deputy Director.
The beneficiary farmers were selected from 65 villages of the district and the saplings provided to them numbered over 1.71 lakhs.
Farming equipment and fertilizers were also provided to them.
The saplings are said to have groomed from seeds provided by the national Research Centre, Nagpur.
