Imphal, December 28 2020:
The United Development Committee Khundrakpam Kendra, Pangei Yangdong has warned that it would boycott N Rajendro @ Boy for his alleged inflammatory remark made recently during a meeting if he fails to make a clarification.
Many bodies of Sagolmang and Haraorou under Khundrakpam Assembly Constituency (AC) had few days back also issued similar warning for allegedly 'levelling the people of the AC to beggars living under fear and oppression' in his speech during a programme organised recently by BJP Mahila Morcha at Lainingthou Puthiba Sanglen, Yumnam Khunou.
Speaking to media persons during a press meet held at a community hall near Pangei Keithel today, president of the United Development Committee Takhelchangbam Shivdutta Sharma said that his remark was condemnable in the strongest term.
It was very unbecoming of a person, who had held various positions and worked with many civil society organisations, to have used such a language, he said.
Though the residents of Keibi, Uyumpok, Pukhao and Pangei stretch are mostly farmers and daily wage earners, they are hard workers and are living peacefully, he said.
Even as AC had been in poor state, it has seen immense growth in the past few decades through the diligent efforts of the forefathers and now through current generation, but the statement of N Rajendro has hurt the sentiments of the people of the AC, he said.
Shivdutta, while maintaining that such demeaning words from him were unexpected, called on N Rajendro along with authority concerned to find out exactly how many 'chakni-finiba/beggars' are there and where are they prevalent in the State, especially in Khundrakpam AC.
He also urged him (Rajendro) to bring up and discuss the issue in the media so that people of the State may know how many 'beggars' there are across ACs of the State.
It is fine for someone to carry out philanthropic works and extend help to those in need personally or politically but usage of such words is considered very ill mannered in society, he continued.
He also asked Rajendro on what ground he had said that people of the AC are living an oppressed life when the State overall has witnessed an improved including law and order situation, through collective efforts on the part of the people, CSOs and the State Government.
The words of Rajendro were unjust on the people of the AC who are living with dignity even if they are poor, said Shivdutta while demanding Rajendro to make a clarification at the earliest.
If not, he will likely face social boycott from the people of the Pangei Yangdong, he said.
In the meantime, the secretary of Pangei Yangdong Women Welfare Association, Hijam Tombi also demanded clarification from N Rajendro and warned of intense agitation and boycott if he fails to pay heed.
