Imphal, December 28 2020:
The Naga Women's Union (NWU) today expressed shock at the alleged 'preplanned' attempt of a man and some communal minded people to outrage the modesty of Victoria Okram, wife of Minister Henry Okram, who is currently staying at her matrimonial home at Mantripukhri with her two children on the night of December 10, 2020.NWU vehemently condemns such act in the strongest terms and the womenfolk stand for protecting the rights and for the betterment every Naga woman irrespective of their social status and will not tolerate such acts and attempts committed with the sole motive to assassinate the character of a faithful tribal mother, said a statement released by NWU.
NWU alleged that the incident that happened on December 10, 2020 was a clear case of character assassination that was aimed at tarnishing her image and said the union will not remain a silent spectator on such matter.
The statement appealed the state machinery and the law enforcing agencies to take immediate steps for arresting and booking the culprits under relevant laws in response to the legal complaint already filed by the victim and warned that the failure to comply to this demands will compel the union to take its own course of action to give justice to the victim.
