Imphal, January 10:
Observing that the ongoing road development work from Tengnoupal along NH 39 to Joupi under SPA is making serious compromise on quality, Chandel A/C MLA Thangkholun Haokip has decided to apprise the matter to the Minister and the Department concerned and to cease the ongoing road development work.
Even as Rs 7 crores was sanctioned in 2006-07 for development of the road from Tengnoupal to Joupi including black topping, execution of the work started only recently.
Even then, MLA Thangkholun during a trip to his home constituency yesterday observed that proper quality was not being maintained while executing the road development work.
He observed that too little bitumen was used in the black-topping work.
Moreover, the black top layer was found not properly pressed by rollers.
In addition, the concrete and black top layers were found to be much thinner than prescribed guidelines.
Taking strong exception to such blatant violation of guidelines in executing welfare projects, he asserted that strong actions should be initiated against such unscrupulous elements.
The matter will be taken up with the Minister and Department concerned so as to cease the ongoing work and to order re-execution of the road development work, said Thangkholun.
Interestingly, Works Minister K Ranjit was in Chandel district on January 5 and 6 inspecting various development works being executed in the district under SPA.
Moreover, the Works Minister also revised the work programme for development of the road from Tengnoupal to Joupi.
According to the revised plan, the road development work will extend up to New Somtal at the total estimated cost of Rs 10.5 crores.
