The general secretary of United Ching-Tam Clubs' Association (UCCA) has been arrested and taken into custody by the Assam Rifles on alleged charge of having nexus with the proscribed PLA.
Demanding conditional release of the arrested person, the people of Pukhao have decided to launch various agitations along with the support of other social organisations.
The general secretary of UCCA Naorem Nageshore alias Rameshore s/o late Tomba of Pukhao Makha Leikai had been reportedly arrested by personnel of 19 AR posted at Sagolmang on alleged charge of having nexus with PLA from his own house at around 4 am yesterday.
At the time of his arrest, the AR personnel who came in an armour vehicle Casper, did not issue any arrest memo although one of his elder brothers identified as Sarat had been forced to sign on a blank paper.
Meanwhile, the conduct of the AR personnel in arresting Nageshore has been strongly condemned during a public meeting held at Pukhao Naharup ground today.
Demanding immediate and unconditional release of the arrested person, the meeting resolved to launch various intense agitations along with the support of various social organisations in case the demand is not met.
Furthermore, appealing to the authorities of the AR to prevent personnel of 19 AR posted at Sagolmang from targeting innocent civilians, the meeting resolved for collective efforts of the people of Pukhao area to challenge such activities of the AR in the future.
Apart from Meira Paibi leaders of Pukhao area, representatives of various social organisations like Poirei Leimarol Meira Paibi Apunba Manipur, AMAWOVA, AMUCO, Imphal East United Clubs Organisation and COHR also attended the public meeting.
Speaking at the occasion UCCA president L Guite informed that UCCA was established in 1993 with the main objective of resolving the ethnic conflict and has been working for promotion of peace and harmony.
Nageshore is one of the most dedicated chief functionaries of the UCCA, he said, while denouncing the conduct of the AR personnel as an attempt to discourage public leaders working for the cause of unity and integrity.
