AIMS submits memorandum to PM

Deeply concerned with the shortage of water, the Apunba Imagi Machasing (AIMS) Manipur has submitted a memorandum to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to address the water crisis in the State.
AIMS in the memorandum said the State has been suffering due to scanty rainfall for the last two years.
All the rivers are almost running dry and all districts of Manipur notably Imphal East, Imphal West, Thoubal, Bishnupur, Tamenglong, Kamjong, Ukhrul and Tengnoupal are facing water shortage (for agriculture and drinking) .
"All the source of water is contaminated by the construction of railway tunnels in Tairenpokpi, Atong Khuman, Sairemkhu and Morok Ingkhol areas, asserted the memorandum appealing for steps to link Imphal (Manipur) river and Barak river and divert some water from the Barak river.
It also appealed the Centre to urge Manipur Government to take up necessary actions to complete the diversion of water from the Mapithel Dam to augment the drinking water scheme to Imphal valley.
AIMS then appealed Centre to instal solar-powered tube wells for irrigation purposes in the valley.
