Bishnupur, April 08 2020:
Amidst the ongoing lockdown due to the outbreak of coronavirus, local residents of Turenbal Leikai Moirang have expressed outrage over some individuals conducting business and have prohibited anyone from using godowns in the locality.
Speaking to media persons, a resident of the locality said that one individual who owns a godown to store and sell goods procured from outside was warned 10 days ago and restrained from unloading goods since the godown is located in a crowded residential area where locals face the risk of contracting the virus easily.
However, a truck loaded with onions and tomatoes from Siliguri arrived late last night, she said.
A mob had gathered in the morning to stop unloading of goods.
Moirang police along with SDPO and OC intervened and detained the person.
The goods were also handed over to Moirang Police where it was sold at wholesale rate.
Although grateful for procurement of essential items, residents demanded that the godown be moved to a less populated area adding that until the spread of COVID-19 is contained, no place inside the locality will function as a place of business.
