Imphal, August 30 2013 :
BJP State Unit has stated that the State Government will not be able to implement the National Food Security Bill in Manipur before the next Lok Sabha election.
Speaking to reporters, BJP State Unit President Th Chaoba said the party would not have any qualms with the people of the State if they vote for Congress in case the ruling party fully implements the Bill before Lok Sabha election.
He alleged that the Government is still not able to provide works to job card holders under MGNREGS although Panchayat elections have already been held.
Saying that the Government is also not providing the full quota of AAY rice to beneficiaries, Chaoba said that it has now become clear that the present Government would not be able to implement National Food Security Bill in the State before Lok Sabha election.
Questioning how the Food Security Ordinance could be implemented by September 30, Chaoba pointed out that it was not right to select beneficiaries without having proper grassroot surveys.
If the selection of beneficiaries is carried out on the table, the ordinance would give benefit to wrong and ineligible persons like in Old Age Pension Scheme, Th Chaoba said.
The State BJP President also said that any beneficiary who does not get the entitled benefit under the ordinance must seek legal help.
Saying that there are no proper godowns in the State to store rice and wheat which are to be distributed to the beneficiaries under Food Security Ordinance, Chaoba also said that the condition of the National Highways are also too bad.
Opining that the State Government would not afford to transportation charges as it is currently reeling under deficit budget, Chaoba said that under such circumstances, possibility of implementation of the Ordinance before Lok Sabha election is too bleak.
In this regard, Chaoba said, BJP State Unit would conduct awareness programmes at different parts of the State from the first week of September.
