Senapati District Consumer Club inspects 100 bedded hostel work site

Senapati, April 24 2021:
A team of the Senapati District Consumer Club led by its president, D Maryna conducted a surprise inspection at the ongoing construction site of the 100 Bedded Co-education Hostel, Residential School, Bendramai in Senapati district.
Speaking to media persons, D Maryna stated that the team met with the head masonry, Neru Islam and other labours at the work site and was informed that the construction was ongoing on as per the blueprint shown to them by the labours.
However, it was found that the foundation was constructed sub-standard and the overall work quality of the work was rather poor.
Only third class local sand was used during the construction, the president asserted.
The official concerned from MOBC including the architect, engineer and contractor was stated not to have visited the work site to assess the progress of the construction.
D Maryna informed that complaints from different quarters were brought to the office of District Consumers' Club over the quality of work at the ongoing construction of the proposed 100 Bedded Hostel since the first week of March.
The foundation stones also used sub-standard stone boulder that are not usable even for retaining walls and upon enquiry, the head masonry informed that proper materials were provided for the construction, she asserted.
D Maryna lamented that no one knows when natural disasters like earthquake would come and is scared if residents in such building would be killed due to the poor quality of the construction.
She mentioned that the team, would directly report to the District Deputy Commissioner, who is also the ex-officio chairman of the club about the findings at the work site for further necessary action.
Children from poor families would be sent to such Residential schools and in order to order to prevent any future tragedies, the progress of the construction should be closely monitored, she added.
D Maryna reiterated that the SDCC is not satisfied with the condition at the ongoing work sit, where the labours even admitted about the poor quality of the construction.
The club further informed that they would carry out similar inspection at other places as per the complaints of the people.
