Imphal, November 16 2015:
The Aimol Tribe Union, Manipur (ATUM) has appealed to the people of Aimol to stand firm and strong in protecting the social, political, cultural identity and dignity of the Aimol.
The Aimol Community has been living peacefully with their neighbours including the Naga, Kuki, Meitei and other communities in the land from time immemorial.
In a statement, ATUM president RT Akhel said that it is learnt that S Munthuireng Aimol (former ATUM president) and his cohorts are planning to erect monolith to mark the inclusion of Aimol into the Naga fold at Aimol Satu village within November 2015 against the wish of the Aimol people and in violation of the principle of the tribe's neutrality.
The declaration and planning to erect monolith to mark inclusion of Aimol into the Naga fold is totally unacceptable to the people of Aimol, it said.
ATUM under the leadership of Munthuireng and his colleagues was dissolved and new ATUM office bearers were elected on June 23 this year by the People of Aimol at Aimol Ngairong village in Chandel district.
ATUM has appealed to the group concerned to stop all kinds of outrageous and treacherous activities immediately.
At the same time, by using the same ATUM official letterhead and seal, the group supporting the inclusion of Aimols into Naga fold has been collecting money on false pretext, it alleged.
A separate entity of the Aimol tribe should be maintained and honoured by all communities, ATUM asserted.
ATUM further warned that if any untoward incident happens in the Aimol community in the future, the group led by Munthuireng should be fully held responsible, it cautioned.
