Indian Olympic Association (IOA) approved the proposal of the Manipur Olympic Association for hosting the 2nd National Youth Games in Imphal in the year 2011 .
The matter was discussed as Miscellaneous Item Number 12 of the Annual General Body Meeting of the Indian Olympic Association chaired by its President Shri Suresh Kalmadi held at Ashoka Hotel here on Monday and the resolution for the next National Youth Games to be held in Imphal was adopted by the members unanimously.
The President of Manipur Olympic Association (MOA) Shri Bijoy Koijam MLA who is the Vice Chairman of Manipur State Planning Board and its Secretary Shri L.Manglem Singh attended the Annual General Meeting of the Indian Olympic Association.
Giving the details of the infrastructure available in connection with the 2nd Youth games in Imphal, the President of the Manipur Olympic Association Shri Bijoy Koijam in the meeting stated that all the infrastructures constructed for holding the 5th National Games in Imphal in 1999 were in good condition and the Department of Youth Affairs and Sports had been properly maintaining it by organizing different sports activities from time to time.
He stated that apart from construction of another indoor stadium in addition to the existing stadiums completed in the National Games 1991 in the Khuman Lampak Sports Complex, the stadiums in the districts were constructed and developed.
Referring to the accommodation of the players and the technical officials, he said that they might be accommodated at the premises of the National Games Village at Langol.
Accommodation of the officials of Indian Olympic Association and National Federations might be made at luxury hotels in Imphal.
He further mentioned that the construction of the Olympic Bhavan in Imphal at the estimated cost of Rs.4.82 crores was in progress and would be completed in March 2010.Some VIPs might be accommodated in the said Bhavan.
In the Annual General meeting of the Indian Olympic Association, the President of the Manipur Olympic Association drew the attention of the President of IOA for not granting recognition to the State Level Associations by the National Sports Federations without consulting the concerned State Olympic Associations, to avoid creation of confusion among the sports fraternities.
The President of the MOA Bijoy Koijam today met the President of the IOA Suresh Kalmadi at the Commonwealth Games 2010 Office at Parliament Street here and discussed about the probable dates of the 2nd National Youth Games to be held in 2011 in Imphal.
The President of MOA suggested to hold the Games in Imphal either in January to April or September to December.
Later, Suresh Kalmadi informed him that the convenient dates of the Games would be finalized after working out the calendar sports events.
Mention may be made that the Indian Olympic Association had decided to hold the 1st National Youth Games in Bangalore which would expect to see around 6,000 athletes in the below-18 age group from all over India vie for the top honors.
