3 PHC staff face penalty

Health Minister Phungzathang Tonsing has declared that 'appropriate action' would be initiated against three employees of Lilong Primary Health, who were found absent.
As part of his surprise inspection visit to the PHC today, Minister Phungzathang flipped through the pages of the attendance register and discovered that three employees had not reported for duty.
The absentees include UDC Abdul Kader, MACS counsellor deepika Devi and Grade-IV staffer Nanda Sharma.
According to attendance register record Kader last reported for duty on July 29, 2013, Deepika absent since August 27 and Nanda Sharma not reporting for duty since August 21 .
visibly upset with the employee trio not complying with prescribed norms and declaring at the spot that appropriate action would be initiated against them, Phungzathang told The Sangai Express that heads of Government medical centres were already instructed to ensure regular attendance of all the employees.
Not reporting for duty by employees working in medical centres amounts to neglecting life of the citizens and such negligence will not be tolerated, fumed the Minister who also maintained that inspection visits would continue.
Informing that Lilong PHC has seven doctors, including the Medical Officer in-charge Dr N Jayentakumar, six staff nurses and 42 other administrative and technical employees, Phungzathang also stated that relevant process would be initiated to replace the bed-sheets and pillows.
Noting that some portion of the PHC building including the floor and ceiling are in urgent need for repairing and that requisite machine for providing ultra sound facility to the patients is yet to be installed at the medical centre, he suggested that Health and Family Welfare Principal Secretary Dr Suhel Akhtar and District Health Society Chairman T Ranjit Singh prepare and present a detailed report on the PHC's requirements.
