Legal awareness camp conducted

St Patrick English School organised a day-long legal awareness camp at its premises today.
Advocate Premlata Devi spoke on the topic, 'Domestic violence and right to food' in the programme.
She said that any kind of verbal and physical harassments meted out to women can be claimed as domestic violence.
The victims may approach the law court if they face such instances.
She added that denying education to girl child and keeping wives for household works only can also be rated as violence against women.
Speaking on the topic, 'Right to Education', Lecturer of LMS Law College, Prof Pramod said that eduction is the key to development and the State can enhance human resource through education.
He added that every child between the age group of 6 to 14 years are entitled to get free and compulsory education in India.
If any child is denied this right, they may move the law court, he added.
LMS Law College, Prof Pramod however said that providing free books, text books and midday meal alone cannot be said as fulfilment of right to education, but the Government must try to give quality education to all the children of this age group.
Former District and Session Judge Laimayum Birendra Kumar spoke on 'Family Law and Right of Women' while Government Advocate Ngangom Tejkumar delved into the topic, 'Arrest and detention' in the programme sponsored by Nahakpam Indrajit Singh.
