Nirmala Sitharaman, Minister of State (IC) Industries and Commerce (I&C), MoS Corporate Affairs, Finance, Govt of India said, 'North East region is capable of unlocking its potential and utilizing it for the region and nation at large' citing examples of 100% organic growing State of Sikkim and achievements of other States of North East India.
Sitharaman was speaking as a chief guest at the 'CSR Conclave - 2014, Utilizing CSR as a tool for sustainable growth' on Monday at NEDFi House, Guwahati, Assam organized by Indian Chamber of Commerce (ICC) in association with the Indian Institute of Corporate Affairs (IICA), Ministry of Corporate Affairs (MCA), Government of India, according to a press release issued by ICC-NER.
Government of India's mission 'Make In India' should see large interest from those it is meant for, and it will definitely generate CSR in the region adding up to existing ones.
She emphasized on social accounting to check the utilization of CSR money and advised corporates to spent CSR money which 2% of net profit currently on 'Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan' launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Gandhi Jayanti which will have tremendous impact on sanitation, social environment, health and better future of the nation.
CSR Conclave � 2014 was organized to understand how CSR can be utilized as a tool for achieving sustainable growth and also to provide a platform for corporate/PSU's to highlight the developmental activities done by them.
Dr Bhaskar Chatterjee, DG & CEO, IICA, Ministry of Corporate Affairs, Govt of India delivered the key note address.
He said, 'CSR is not a Charity but Responsibility' as the name suggests and it is mandatory for all corporate to spent 2% of net profit over 500 crore and is given freedom of selection from 11 avenues from Overview of Sec 135, Companies Act-2013 .
Sanjay Budhia past president of ICC a former resident of Tinsukia district of Assam who had donated all his land and property for setting a model hospital with modern amenities gave the welcome address.
Ameising Luikham, Secretary, North Eastern Council, Govt of India, Jitesh Khosla, Chief Secretary, Govt of Assam, RP Singh, Parliamentary Secretary, Department of Industries & Commerce, Govt of Assam also addressed the CSR Conclave today.
Dr Rajjev Singh Director General ICC who moderated the conclave expressed gratitude to the Minister for her encouragement in promoting CSR in the region in a massive way and in formed the conclave that ICC through its various initiatives over he years has brought in 7000 crore of investment and many of these companies have started contributing to CSR in the desired way.
The conclave was attended by corporate, NGOs, CSOs, industry captains, industry organizations, institutions and CSR implementing agencies also beneficiaries interacted in the technical session with the experts and speakers.
Prolific speakers of the sectors and PSU deliberated in the technical session.
