Imphal, September 10 2013:
While lack of basic infrastructure and teaching staff inadequacy have been frequently cited as some of the factors for regression of Government educational institutions compared to private schools, an investigation carried out by Kangleipak Students' Association (KSA) has led to the revelation about an assistant teacher of a Government school running a reputed private school.
According to KSA president Thangjam Premanda, assistant teacher of Haokaramband High School, under ZEO Zone IV (Bishnupur district) namely Soraisham Manaoton is actually the founder principal of Zenith Academy, Sangaiprou.
While another individual identified as Nongmaithem Brojen continues to serve at Haokaramband HS in place of Manaoton the latter remains confined in looking after the affairs of the Sangaiprou academy, claimed the KSA president who demanded that higher authorities probe the matter and initiate relevant punitive action against the assistant teacher for dereliction of duty in his designated post.
Opining that presence of such insincere teachers in Government schools has been the chief reason for the Government institutions unable to produce meritorious students for the past many years, Premanda said activities and association of Manaoton with the private academy came to light during an inspection visit by the KSA volunteers today.
having classes VI to X, Haokaramband HS (PO-Nambol) availed 10 computers under the Government provision but till date there is not a single computer teacher to provide computer lesson to the students, he maintained adding that inspite of library and computer classrooms construction initiated about two years back the same facilities are yet to be completed.
Describing the toilet facility as pathetic and regretting absence of school boundary fencing, Premanda opined that Government school teachers not concentrating in their assigned tasks/duties is one of the reasons for the decline in popularity of Government schools.
Haokaramband High School is informed to have 15 teachers for 23 students in class VI, 40 in Cl-VII, 46 in Cl-VIII, 23 in Cl-IX and 10 in Class X .
