Arambam Samarendra Memorial observed, L Shrutikumar gets lifetime achievement award

Arambam Samarendra Trust and Social Standard Club observed "19th Arambam Samarendra Martyrdom Memorial" at the later's complex at Khurai Nandeibam Leikai Monday.
Chairperson of Arambam Samarendra Trust, Arambam Lokendra, Khurai Nandeibam Leikai Pradhan Yumnam Chitra, Ward Member Ranbala Thokchom, Social Standard Club secretary Salam Barbabu, elders of the Leikai- Salam Ibopishak, Salam Biren, RK Sanajaoba and others attended the event.
The gathering led by Arambam Lokendra paid floral tribute to the statue of Arambam Samarendra.
As a part of the observance, students recited poems and showcased several events as a mark of respect to late writer A Samarendra.

Female students of Kangjabi Meitei Chanu Art cum Drama Association performed Moirang Parba (Kao phaaba) at the event.
Recalling life of the famed writer, A Lokendra said that Arambam Samarendra was a playwright who had genuine love for his people and the State.
He was killed by unknown person during a seminar at Khurai Nandeibam Leikai on June 10, 2000.He was a visionary who had dreams of transforming society.
He was also a feminist who through his plays and books empowered women, said Lokendra.
Arambam Samarendra in his lifetime worked for preservation and promotion of aged indigenous culture and tradition, he added.
The memorial observed every year is a result of the works he (Arambam Samarendra) had done in his lifetime, said Lokendra conveying the significant roles of Meira Paibis, clubs, organisations and individuals in continuing the observance till today.
Since 2006, many scholars including from outside the State have been conducting series of memorial lectures in his name, Lokendra said.
Meanwhile, the 14th memorial lecture was held at Lamyanba Shanglen Monday.
Babloo Loitongbam, director, Human Rights Alert spoke on the topic - The United Nations and Human Rights: The Manipur Experience.
Lecture text was also released and deliberated upon at the event.
Organised by Arambam Samarendra Trust, the memorial lecture was attended by its chairperson Dr A Lokendra, Chaoba Phuritsabam of Manipur Legal Services and Malem Mangal, guest lecturer, Royal Academy of Law.
The memorial is being observed in 15 different places in Manipur.
Various events including Mukna Kangjei and Thang-Ta are being organised at Heirok and Moreh Kondong Lairembi.
Memorials are also underway in Assam, said Lokendra.

Patriotic Writers Forum Manipur observed Arambam Samarendra Memorial and gave Arambam Samarendra Memorial Lifetime Achievement Award 2019 to renowned social and cultural activist writer Lairenlakpam Shrutikumar of Hojai Assam.
The dignitaries along with the gathering paid floral tribute to the statue of the late writer Arambam Samarendra at Nungsikol Park, Chana, Imphal East as a mark of respect.
A poem recitation programme was also organised as a apart of the observance.
Sahitya Akademi Awardee Sagolshem Lanchenba Meetei, TOM TV Editor Jit Ningombam, PWFM president Yaiskul Khwairakpam attended the event as presidium members.
